CDX Online

What makes CDX Online the most advanced web-based automotive learning solution?

Quality content.

CDX PC, LAN, and DVD learning materials are widely respected among teachers and students all over the world as being the best – the most visual, the easiest to use, the easiest to learn with.  All of these award-winning materials are now available online.

High performance.

These are the three main factors that affect how fast web content can be downloaded and displayed on your PC screen.

Connection speed:  Not everyone has a superfast broadband connection all the time, so CDX lets you choose a service optimized for your connection.

Server speed:  All CDX video and other rich media files are housed on specialist load-balanced high-speed streaming servers at main Internet backbone hubs.  If there was an even faster way to get our content to you, we'd use it.

File size:  All CDX video files are encoded three times – fullsize, for fast broadband and LAN connections; medium sized, for regular broadband; and tiny, for dialup connections.  You choose which suits you best.

Secure access.

CDX Online is not 'just another website'. It can only be accessed with the CDX Online 'launcher' application program, not a regular browser, so there is no danger of students using CDX Online to access other web or Internet content.  The CDX Online Learning Environment (see below) is also protected by login IDs and passwords, so all the student records are kept separate and confidential.

What courseware is available through CDX Online?

The first two products released for delivery across the web are CDX Automotive Resource Kit Online (ARKOnline)  and CDX General Service Online (GSOnline) .

You can choose to have access to either one – or both – of these products.

View the course map here.

How is CDX Online presented to teachers and students?

CDX Online courseware is contained within a secure 'Online Learning Environment' (OLE).  Students and teachers logon to this web server based application through a secure 'launcher' program, and the OLE then provides menu access to just those course modules that the user is allowed to see, together with associated tests.

What is the CDX Online Learning Environment?

This web-based software is not a fully configurable LMS (Learning Management System) or VLE (Virtual Learning Environment), but it has some of the essential features of such systems.

Students can:

  • Work through CDX course modules
  • Take tests and quizzes
  • Monitor their own test results
  • Change their password

Instructors can:

  • Do all the things that students can do, plus…
  • Monitor individual activities
  • Monitor individual test results
  • Monitor group results
  • Export reports

Supervisors can:

  • Do all the things that instructors and students can do, plus…
  • Assign user logins to individual users
  • Reset user passwords
  • Enroll students and instructors in courses
  • Create groups and assign students to groups

The CDX OLE only works with CDX courseware, but CDX courseware can work with a school or college's own LMS instead, if one is already in place.

How do you get access to CDX Online?

Contact Academy of Automechanics, we will help you choose which version – or versions – of our CDX products best suit your needs. Contact details are here.

  • There is a modest annual subscription fee for each of the CDX Online product/s you choose.
  • Each student and each teacher needs a personal login and password, which lasts for 12 months and is renewable if required.

There will usually be a one-time setup fee to establish your own unique CDX Online Learning Environment.

What do you mean, 'CDX Online is a secure service'?

CDX Online can only be accessed with a special 'launcher' program that can be quickly downloaded from various websites, or emailed to users by teachers or supervisors.

The purpose of this launcher program is to check the user's ID and password, and then connect them into the correct CDX OLE, which will present them with their learning options.  Nobody can access your organization's OLE without the launcher program and a valid user ID, and the launcher program cannot take you anywhere else on the web.

Although CDX Online is a web-based service, it cannot be accessed with a normal browser, and the CDX launcher program cannot be used to access any other websites as if it was a normal browser.

What hardware/software do I need to be able to connect to CDX Online?

You will need:

  • A Windows PC (not a Mac)
  • Windows XP – or later
  • Windows Media Player (built-in to XP)
  • Internet Explorer 5.5 – or later (Windows needs this to be installed to let the CDX Online program connect to our servers.  The students do not load and run IE)
  • Flash 7 – or later
  • Adobe Acrobat Reader 6.0 – or later
  • Plus a subscription to CDX Online (of course)
